basil and the vicious bear clan
definitely the weirdest, wackiest, most bizarre thing I’ve ever done. i do feel like it’s very ‘me’ though. i mean, i draw and paint a lot of my failure in relationship, and this one here is not any different. i started with the idea in april 2011, it was inspired by a boy (the same boy from the Thursday series actually, I’m a bit ashamed to admit that) i had a major crush on and he didn’t feel the same way about me.
the story itself is actually a lot longer than what i could illustrate here. it started with the kidnapping, and then followed by basil infiltrating the black poodle monastery. it was really long, and a lot wackier than what it was in the zine. i just didn’t have enough patience, i really just wanted to start drawing the ending. i re-read it and i think for a lot of people the story doesn’t make sense; it starts with a preview of the previous chapter, and ends with a confusing possible sequel. well, it is just wacky.
a friend of mine said that there’s some sort of ‘teenage angst’ in my stories. and i think he was right. i guess at the end of it ‘basil and the vicious bear clan’ is my story in a wacky alternate universe, but i hope you get the idea. it’s a way of dealing with rejection, self doubt, jealousy, disappointment and anger. it’s wacky, bizarre, a bit absurd i guess, but it will always mean something for me (not only because it was sold out).
i hope you like it. and message me if you don’t get the story, I’ll be happy to explain it to you. ah and let me know if you want to get the hard copy :)
